Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cups frozen French fries
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup Can be substituted with cream of chicken soup.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Optional Toppings
  • pickles
  • mustard
  • diced tomatoes

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, ketchup, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Layers
  1. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the frozen French fries, followed by the cooked beef mixture.
  2. Pour the soup mixture over the beef and top with remaining French fries.
  3. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, until the fries are cooked and golden brown.
  2. Optional: add pickles, mustard, and diced tomatoes on top before serving.

Notes

Ensure to drain the fat from the beef to keep the casserole from becoming greasy. You can utilize other ground meats or add vegetables as desired. For a different flavor, consider using cream of chicken soup instead of cream of mushroom.
