  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, sliced Slice thinly for even cooking.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice) Different types can be used for added flavor.
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can be swapped with cream of chicken soup or homemade white sauce.
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • as needed Olive oil for cooking

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
  3. Add the ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned.
  4. In a large bowl, combine sliced potatoes, cooked beef mixture, cream of mushroom soup, and milk.
Baking
  1. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  2. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  3. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  4. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly.
  5. Let sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

This dish can be prepared a day in advance and baked when ready to serve. Pairs well with green salad or steamed vegetables. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
