  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces Canned tomatoes Crushed or diced.
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Herbs (basil, oregano, thyme) Use dried or fresh.

Béchamel Sauce
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons Flour For thickening.
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 pinch Nutmeg Optional for flavor.
Cheese Layer
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until soft.
  4. Add ground beef and Italian sausage, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in canned tomatoes, tomato paste, herbs, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20-30 minutes.
  6. To make the béchamel sauce, melt butter in a saucepan, stir in flour to make a roux, then gradually whisk in milk. Cook until thickened, and add a pinch of nutmeg.
Assembly and Baking
  1. In a baking dish, layer noodles, meat sauce, béchamel, and cheese. Repeat layers, ending with cheese on top.
  2. Bake for 30-40 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  3. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use fresh herbs for a brighter flavor. For a vegetarian option, replace meat with mushrooms and zucchini. Let lasagna sit for a few minutes before slicing to help it hold its shape. Add more cheese for a cheesier lasagna.
