Ingredients
  

For the patties
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the gravy
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For browning the patties
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 tablespoon water (optional, for cornstarch)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into patties.
Cooking
  1. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Brown the patties on both sides and then remove them from the skillet.
  2. In the same skillet, add mushrooms and sauté until tender.
  3. Pour in the beef broth and bring it to a simmer.
  4. If you want a thicker gravy, mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl, then add it to the gravy.
  5. Return the patties to the skillet and let them simmer in the gravy for about 10 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with gravy poured over the top.

Notes

This dish can be served over mashed potatoes, rice, or even egg noodles. A side of vegetables or a fresh salad pairs nicely as well. Don't forget to drizzle some extra gravy on top for an added touch! Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat, simply warm it in a skillet over medium heat or in the microwave until heated through. For added flavor, consider using red wine in the gravy or modifying with different mushrooms.
