Ingredients
  

For the Chicken
  • 1 pound chicken breast, thinly sliced Tender and juicy
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil For richness
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice For brightness
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced For aromatic depth
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano Adding a herby flavor
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin For a warm, earthy tone
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper To taste
For the Tzatziki
  • 1 cup thick Greek yogurt For creaminess
  • ½ cup crumbled feta cheese For a tangy kick
  • 1 large cucumber, grated and drained Refreshing crunch
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced A double dose of flavor
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice To meld the flavors
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil Smooth consistency

For Assembling
  • 4-6 pieces pita breads Soft and pillowy
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced For a slight crunch
  • 2 ripe tomatoes, diced Juicy and sweet
  • 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce For freshness

Method
 

Preparation of Chicken
  1. Marinate the chicken by mixing the olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and coat them well. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
Preparation of Tzatziki
  1. In another bowl, combine Greek yogurt, crumbled feta cheese, grated cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  2. Stir until well combined and set aside.
Cooking the Chicken
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the marinated chicken.
  2. Cook for about 6-8 minutes, or until fully cooked and golden brown, stirring occasionally.
Assembling the Gyros
  1. Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave.
  2. Place some chicken in the center of each pita, then top with tzatziki sauce, red onion, diced tomatoes, and shredded lettuce.
  3. Fold the pita and serve warm.

Notes

Store leftover chicken and tzatziki sauce separately in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Pita can also be stored but is best enjoyed fresh.
