Ingredients
  

For the Marinade
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye) Tender cuts will yield better flavor and texture.
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil For marinating and cooking.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds great flavor.
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger Fresh ginger enhances the dish.
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional) Can be skipped for a vegetarian option.
  • 1 tsp sesame oil For added flavor.
For the Sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional) Optional ingredient.
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch Helps to thicken the sauce.
For Cooking
  • 1 large onion, sliced Adds sweetness and texture.
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil For cooking the onions and beef.

Method
 

Prepare the Steak
  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil.
  2. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
Cook the Onions
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized.
  3. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from the pan and set aside.
Sear the Beef
  1. In the same pan, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat.
  2. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch.
  2. Pour the sauce over the beef and let simmer until it thickens.
Combine & Serve
  1. Add the sautéed onions back into the pan, stirring to combine.
  2. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Add a splash of water when reheating to prevent drying out. Feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers or broccoli for extra crunch.
